Week 3 Reflection

Image
This week in English/Pe we learnt another two new games. These games were from the Maori culture.  The First game we learnt was the game Ti Uru. This game was played on a netball court that had 5 dots at each end on the back line. The aim of this game is to get all of your teams dots removed from your side. To get your teams dots removed you need to catch the Ki while standing on the mat. To catch the ball you needed to catch it with a flat palm and if dropped pick it up with a flat palm. If you caught it above of your head two mats were removed. If you caught it by your hip one mat was removed. The second game we played was ki-o-Rahi. The aim of the game was to get the most points by the end of the games. We were split into two teams the Ki oma(attack) team and the Taniwha team(defence). The court was made into a series of circles inside out each other. Depending on what team you are on there were certain circles you couldn't go in. If on the Ki Oma team to score a point you nee...

My Reflection Of The Week

This week in English we learned two new games. The first game we learned was a game called Kabaddi, a sport originally from India. Kabaddi is a non-contact sport that is usually played indoors. There are two teams on each side of the middle line. There are multiple ways of scoring a point, but the main being tagging someone on the opposite team then making your way back to your half. The defenders are trying to stop you by tackling you to the ground before you make it back to your half of the court. We had to adapt this rule as we are at school and on the wooden floor would be dangerous to the rule being wrapping your arms around said player and counting to three. The next game we learned was a game called Lacrosse, which originated in America. The aim of the game again is to have the most amount of points by the end of the game. To score a goal you need to throw the ball using the "stick" into the goal. You can get the ball to the goal by passing to your teammates or runni...

My Experience Of Palin

Image
This term our English and PE class have joined together to learn about new and different sports. This week in English and PE we learned about the game Palin. The game Palin originated form the Mapuche people from Southern Chile. In English we studied the game to learn about how it is originally played and what the rules are. We also learnt what equipment we need to play the game. Finding and learning the rules of the game was hard to do as the Mapuche people never wrote down any rules for themselves. We had to adapt the rules and equipment to suit our class better. Not only this but we did have to make up some rules to make it safer for us as we never found rules to specify safety rules.  As the Mapuche people play they use natural resources like wooden sticks as playing sticks that they would bend at the end. We then went to the beach to find our own sticks that were bent at the end. We then put our knowledge to the test and attempted to play the game for yourself. I really en...

English-Connections

Today in English we went through a series of work station which each had something to do with augmented reality, virtual reality or video games. so we learnt what the each thing was and how they were different. Augmented reality is when  a bit of virtual reality comes into your world. For example it means that you are still looking at your real world but there is a bit of virtual in your real world. Virtually reality means that you go into the virtual world. So you are stepping into that world and all around is the "reality" so you cant see anything from the real world. This could mean that you wear 3d glasses or a helmet. An example of augmented reality in the hunger games is when the game makers added a wolf like creature into the game. This meant that katniss could still see the real word around her but there was a bit of augmented reality in her world.  In uncanny valley the "gamers" put on the nose ring and they stepped into a virtually reality that was based ...
