Week 3 Reflection
This week in English/Pe we learnt another two new games. These games were from the Maori culture. The First game we learnt was the game Ti Uru. This game was played on a netball court that had 5 dots at each end on the back line. The aim of this game is to get all of your teams dots removed from your side. To get your teams dots removed you need to catch the Ki while standing on the mat. To catch the ball you needed to catch it with a flat palm and if dropped pick it up with a flat palm. If you caught it above of your head two mats were removed. If you caught it by your hip one mat was removed.
The second game we played was ki-o-Rahi. The aim of the game was to get the most points by the end of the games. We were split into two teams the Ki oma(attack) team and the Taniwha team(defence). The court was made into a series of circles inside out each other. Depending on what team you are on there were certain circles you couldn't go in. If on the Ki Oma team to score a point you need to touch and many of the seven post you could then run through to the second circle. If on the Taniwha team to score a point you need to throw the ball from the second circle and hit the bin.
I didn't come across many challenges for Ki-O-Rahi becaus I had played this game many times before. I did come across a challenge with the game Ti Uru because I could catch the Ki very well. To overcome this I just kept trying and ended up getting better. Overall I enjoyed both games but Ki-O-Rahi will be my favourite.
