English So Far

Working in  group with people I know helps me a lot. I think it's being able to talk about ideas and share what we are thinking. Also it being people I am friends with makes me want to share my ideas more, because I'm not afraid of saying a stupid idea. In English we have been doing the sex-y paragraph and be colour coding it and I think it really helps for me to get my ideas down and have a full paragraph. I have tried to use the colour coding on other work and it really helped. We have also been doing reading and writing at the start of a class and the writing a paragraph before we start the class is teaching me to write faster and put my sentence together. The reading for ten minutes is helping me to read quicker, because I want to finish as much of the book as I can before the ten minutes is up. I think focusing on one thing at a time help me progress, so instead of thinking this is a whole lot of work I will never finish this I focus on the one sentence at a time and slowly working through it piece by piece. I think I need to work on putting my ideas into sentences the fit together and link, because I have a lot of ideas and I don't know how to word them and put them together. My goal for English is to be able to write one more sentence that before, when doing ten minutes of free writing. My goal for reading is to read a chapter or more of my book in ten minutes of reading. I think what helps me a lot is giving me a model of what we have to do. Overall I think my work in English has been good, I have enjoyed more subjects than others.

WALT: Write to express ideas. Context:Ski Trip We were allowed to choose the way we respond to the ski trip, so I did a recount. Ski Trip It was Monday the 15th of August, the day Ruma Tahi was going skiing at Porter Heights. I woke up at 5 am so I had more than enough time to get ready. Error Control

We started off this period with a group activity. we got into groups and started off by laying down parity cards in a grid of 8x8. Parity card is a card that one side is black and the other is white. we know that a computer uses ones and zeros, so the black side of the card represents the zeros and the white represents the ones.We then had to make sure that each line and each column had the cards flipped the right way. To make sure that the cards were flipped the right way we had to make sure that there is an even amount of black cards. So if the was three cards that were black we had to flip a white so there was an even amount of black. We then went onto out computer and played a games like the one that we played in our group. We had a grid of 8x8 again and again had to make sure that there was an even amount of black like below. pilot survey

I completed a pilot survey by sending it to a few different students to see if they were able to answer the questions and understand what was being asked. At the end pf my survey I added a open question to see what I could improve.
